I am delighted that you’ve found our website and I am sure that you’ll find a great deal of fascinating information whether you are a history buff, genealogist or just plain curious.
This site is just one of the many methods the Society uses to inform people about the important sacrifices our ancestors made to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today.
We have just come off wonderful celebrations around the nation commemorating the actions of the men and women made 200 years ago.
2017 will be a particularly special year for us here in New York. The General Society of the War of 1812 will be conducting a Triennial meeting of its membership in Plattsburgh on September 7 – 10. The function will be hosted by the Society of the Second War with Great Britain in the State of New York and attended by the General Society of the Daughters of the War of 1812 as well as the Military Society of the War of 1812. The City of Plattsburgh has been celebrating the Victories on land and on Lake Champlain for nearly 30 years. There will be dozens of venues for children of all ages, parades, food, music and many re-enactments by various groups from Canada and several States. This will be a great place to be the weekend after Labor Day, even if you are not a member of any of the mentioned Societies.
If you believe you may have an ancestor that participated in this War and would like to talk with us more about what our Society does, contact us and follow us on facebook. You are also welcome to stop by any of our events and talk with our members. Our members are always enthusiastic about sharing their history and happy to help others to learn about theirs.
Yours in Patriotism,
Douglass M. “Tim” Mabee, President
Society of the Second War with Great Britain in the State of New York (SSWGBSNY)
